Decoys can be a great way to attract birds and increase your chances of success. Here are some tips on choosing the right spring turkey hunting decoys:

Types

•Hen: Most common, especially for attracting gobblers.

o Single: A single hen is a great option for when you want to draw in a gobbler that’s already on the lookout for a mate.

o Multiple: Using a few hen decoys can simulate a group of hens, which can make the setup look more natural and appealing to a gobbler.

•Gobbler (Tom Decoys): Used to mimic a rival male turkey. Setting up a decoy with a dominant stance can provoke an aggressive response from a male turkey

Positioning

•Hen-Only: If you’re using only hen decoys, place them about 10 to 20 yards away from your blind. Make sure the decoy faces the gobbler as it approaches, so it’s easier for him to spot.

•Tom and Hen Combo: Set the hen decoy in an inviting position, with the tom decoy close, but positioned in a way that makes the gobbler look like he’s trying to assert dominance.

Popular Decoy Brands

•Avian-X: (HDR Strutter and LCD Hen). These have a reputation for excellent detail and natural movement in the wind.

•Montana Decoy: Lightweight and easy to carry, making them perfect for mobile hunters.

•Primos: Their Turkey Decoy Combo set, which features a hen and a gobbler, is popular.

•Dakota Decoy: Their products are durable and highly rated.

Additional Tips

•Motion Decoys: Some decoys come with a built-in motion system that moves in the wind, making them more lifelike

•Color & Detail: Look for decoys with accurate colors and posture.

•Avoid Overuse: A single hen or a combination of one hen and one gobbler works best.

•Weather: Make sure your decoys are sturdy enough to withstand windy conditions
